Princeton is a community of faith which functions much like a family. Much of our ministry happens when we gather on Sunday morning as the people of God together to praise and worship God, to meet one another in fellowship across generations and to learn and grow in faith. However, there are some specialized opportunities for people of various ages and interests.
Ministry with Children
Children are a full part of life at Princeton. Each Sunday, they gather in the sanctuary with the rest of the church family. They stay for the first part of worship. There is a special Time With Children which is part of worship each Sunday. Then, they may either remain in the pews with parents or go to nursery or Sunday School.
Nursery – Nursery is staffed each week by a caring and consistent caregiver. Nursery care is offered for children three and under every Sunday throughout the year. (Children over three are welcome in the nursery during the summer.)
Sunday School – Sunday School is offered in a one-room schoolhouse form. All children from preschool through grade five are welcome. Students are taught the stories and values of the Christian faith through a creative variety of activities and crafts.
Ministry with Youth
On Sunday mornings, youth have an important role to play. They may help lead worship, usher, or help in the nursery or Sunday school, or simply join in worship.
Youth Group - Youth Group is for youth from fifth through twelfth grades. It meets on the first and third Sunday of each month from 6-7:15 p.m. A typical meeting includes snacks & games and discussion or activity. Our Youth Group is a shared ministry, including youth from Princeton, our community, and Chester Eastside Ministries in Chester. Youth Group is a lot of fun and a chance to grow in faith.
FOCUS – FOCUS is a group for youth who want to go deeper. It meets each Sunday from 7:15 – 8:30 p.m. A typical FOCUS meeting includes a time for quiet connecting with God, followed by check-in with one another, and a teaching/discussion time on different aspects of life as a disciple of Jesus in the 21st century.
Weekday Bible Study - Wednesday mornings at 10 a.m. in the Princeton Library.
The weekday Bible study is open to anyone who wants to know more about the Bible, regardless of background or level of expertise. The group includes beginners and those with a lifetime of knowledge. Together, we explore the scripture, looking for God’s word to us today. This discussion-based group is led by Rev. Pam McShane.
Sunday morning studies
From time to time, short term studies on matters of common interest are offered on Sunday mornings following worship. These studies usually last from four to six weeks. Past topics have included such things as "God’s Politics” and "Reading the Bible Like a Grownup”. Inquirers’ classes for those who want to know more about the Christian faith and this church are also offered periodically. Watch this space!
Choir – rehearses Thursday evenings at 7:30 p.m. in the Princeton chapel. The choir is a committed group of singers from two churches, Princeton and Chambers, singing a wide repertory of music. The choir leads worship at Princeton and our partner church, Chambers, two Sundays a month.
Youth Praise Team – rehearses the first and third Sunday of each month at 5:45 (before youth group). This group is filled with talent and energy. Anyone in grades 5-12 is invited to join. The praise team leads worship at Princeton and our partner church Chambers on average one Sunday each month.
